Texta & Ästhetiker: more than similar!

Almost like in a parallel universe, the history of Texta and the Ästhetiker have much in common: The members of both crews have been kids of the 80ies, officially formed a posse in 1993 and from then on became respected underground players in their small enclosed scenes. Off the mainstream radar both crews have pioneered in laying down a lo-key but solid fundament in autonomous activity for generations to come. Whether rain or shine the crews have sticked together for almost 20 years. Staying independent and not selling out, sometimes takes a lot of sacrifice and dues have been paid on both sides. Even when singular crew members had their 5 minutes of fame in the commercial media, this stuff all but raised small grins. The big smiles go out to the rookie rider who has made a name for himself at the Wängl, and to the next-fresh-Linz-MC who had his first part on a Texta album at the age of 13! A good guess is, that as long as they can make a difference, both posses will be around a little bit longer. The new Texta Album will drop in May, but rumors have it, that there might be a first chance to listen in at the Wängl - if the crowd is loud enough - that is YOU! - so make sure you are in there!

Flip (Texta)

This laid back fella is probably the one most influential person in Austrian hip hop; MC, producer, DJ, A`n`R, label boss, studio engineer, clubnight organizer, writer and professor at the university. He has collaborated with pretty much everybody in this country and with some big cats from france, afrika or the US. Always keeping a superlo profile he connects young and old, east and west, street and bookshop - hence aka Umberto Ghetto.

We are proud to call him a regular guest at Ästhetiker Parties. This year Flip will not only rock the big stage on Friday together with the Texta boys and SKI. He will also jam along with Linz´ next generation on the Wednesday, when he will lay down some fresh beats in the Producer Showcase. Considering that the new Texta album is about to drop and Flip is also finishing his very own producer album - well, there should be a few killer beats on his machine, that the world has not heard yet. The wängl party crowd might just get lucky…

Sullivan&The Ruff Pack: Äxclusive!

In a very own approach to inspire the musical sessions at the Wängl, the Ästhetiker like to introduce Austrian bands with friends from abroad. Much like hooking up Masta Ace and Edo G with The Waxos in 2009, this year will feature a collaboration of highly acclaimed shred fotografer and musician Scott Sullivan with Austria´s Ruff Pack. A captivating show is up, when Scott´s mellow strings and songwriting collide with the swift rhythm and blazing sound from Steph Kondert´s three-man-army (yes S.K. as in S.K. Invitational - Ruff Pack is just another formation of these multitasking-music-maniacs). The Band blends and mixes the improvisational and compositional complexity of Jazz and the rustic groove and frenetic energy of HipHop. This clashing of cultures appears more prevalent in New York City, the home base of The Ruff Pack. Based on the classic jazz guitar trio The Ruff Pack takes music to another level. Äxclusive means never-to-be-repeated - so don't miss out!

Artist Wängl 2011: Edo. G

Edo G was one of the first MCs ever. He is a living legend, still doing his thing underground style. „Crazy Eddie“ needs no further introduction to our returning wängl massive. Every year he puts together a cool tour, often with his homeboys from Boston. And every year one tourstop is Mayrhofen; 2008 he rocked the stage with Special Teamz and Big Shug, only to step it up in 2009 when he played an exclusive session with Masta Ace and the Waxolutionists. This year it´s strictly Boston again, as Edo will be blazing it up with Akrobatik and Mr Lif Friday night at the Wängl Hall.

Wednesday at the Wängl: HipHop Karaoke

Forget Guitar Hero, don't think backroom of your favourite Japanese restaurant! This is the real deal, about as 8 Mile as you are gonna get... , as you will be doing your show on an actual stage with a real crowd! if you are good, you will get a free drink! If you are bad, well like it´s said: it´s a real crowd...
