Bowl & Rock JÄm 2016

 Mayrhofen/Zillertal

Text: Chelsea van der Merwe & Peter Sandner

Mayrhofen, Austria – Saturday, September 3rd 2016 – Aesthetikers’ sixth time running annual Bowl & Rock Jam session was a massive success taking the event to an unprecedented level.

The day started off with a kids jam session, with almost 20 kids in attendance. Wolle Nyvelt, Oli Gordon, Steve Gruber and other dedicated riders were there to offer their advice and provide the kids with invaluable coaching. The commitment was evident with the determination of the kids in the bowl, but it was outmatched by the grins on the faces of the coaches as they skated alongside the groms. Kids provide happiness, that’s for sure, and these future rippers and coaches had the time of their lives. “It’s awesome for these kids who grow up doing this and have the opportunity to learn these skills, and to utilize them in their future” Brian Wolfe, a proud father who was in amongst the coaches and kids teaching his daughter how to push and pump.

A tombola raffle stand was new to the jam this year with the Aesthetikers once again, thinking about and doing things for others by raising money for the kids’ workshops. Providing the future generations with the skills, experience and opportunity to be involved and to live amongst the boardsport lifestyle.

Things were done a little differently this year, leading straight to the contest with 21 riders competing in total. Several heats with 3 riders per heat that lasted a strenuous four minutes. Each skater was given an introduction run to showcase their skills and give the crowd a teaser. The quality of the riders and the tricks including the runs that they were pulling made it a tough job for the judges, therefore they were forced to pick 9 riders and then sift it down to 6 finalists. With the tricks for cash session included, it was almost too much to handle. Boards were banging, riders were pounding concrete with bail after bail from going big in attempt to land that one trick, it was a zoo in the bowl and it was more than fantastic. Michi Nadler coming in first place. Followed by Lorenz Schneider second, Joscha Aicher third and 3 riders Oliver Gordan, Roman Astleiner and Gregor Senfter sharing fourth place.  Roman Astleitner claimed the Best Trick with his buzzer beater transfer from low end into deep end

After the award ceremony at the Waldfestplatz, the Ästhetiker Bowl & Rock Jam continued with its musical component. The BlackBones were the opening act of the rock night, on a stage where big names such as Prodigy or Kasabian have performed in the past. The guys from the Innsbruck area, now living in Vienna, got the crowd fired up immediately with their psychedelic rock. The diverse show featuring technical highlights certainly drew several new fans to the band centered around the lead singer Moritz Kristmann. We expect to see more of the BlackBones in the future!

This was followed by punk rock at its best: The Mugwumps, well-established in the Punk scene since 2002, showed how powerful good Punk is and always will be. No pussyfooting around: one-two-three, one smashing Rock’n’Roll song after the other was played, and the audience honored it with some bold dance interludes. Last but not least, Sempre Caoz from Zillertal hit the stage as headliner. There aren’t many bands in Tyrol that throw out such energy and life in live performances as the local heros from Zillertal. Their shows are like a volcanic eruption of Rock’n’Roll, emitting lava composed of Blues Rock, with Alternative and Punk influences. The music is timeless and at the same time contemporary, and one wonders why this band is not better known beyond the valley and province borders. In any case, the Rock Night at the Waldfestplatz was an incredibly successful event organized by the traditional Ästhetiker Bowl Jams. Let’s hope that this event will take place again next year.

Bowl n’ Rock Jam 2016 Sponsors include: Dickies Life, Scotland Yard Pub, Mountain Sports Zillertal, Red Bull, Sportclinic Zillertal, Mayrhofen-Hippach im Zillertal, GreenRoom.at, Sparkasse Schwaz AG, Simpl Life Company, Stock Resort, Vans, Billabong, Dakine, MUCKEFUCK skateboards, K2 Snowboarding, Motion Sports, Eisenbacher, Sporer, Zillertal Bier  and  Zillertal Sennerei.

Here a quote from Michi Nadler “Bowl & Rock JÄm Winner 2016”

Ästhetiker events are always a special happening for me because no other skate event gives you this layed back atmosphere and at the same time doesn´t lack of professionality.

Maybe its the fresh high mountain air in the valley, the fresh water they have in their one and only "Zillertal Bier" or just the super layed back and friendly people.....I don´t know?

I guess its all together, that gives you the special feeling and hypes me personally every year to come back and rock the bowl till i cant walk anymore!

The "Aftershow Rock party" with dope local live bands was a great add on and should be retaining on the future events!

It was real FUN and brings people from all kind of flavors together!

What more can i say?

Big shout out to all the long time Ä-crew members still making all this happening, all these years!!!

Finals and crowning of the royal family at the 4th Tourstop on Hintertux Glacier

Zillertal VÄLLEY RÄLLEY hosted by Ride Snowboards 2015 / 2016

Finals and crowning of the royal family at the 4th Tourstop on Hintertux Glacier

Tons of titles, medals and trophees were up for grabs at the fourth and final Zillertal Välley Rälley hosted by Ride Snowboards tourstop on April 2nd and 3rd  2016 at the Betterpark Hintertux. Beside the tourstop podiums, the overall tour winners and thus the royal Zillertal Välley Rälley family 2016, got crowned at Hintertux Glacier that weekend. Due to challenging conditions with strong winds and flat lights the Ästhetiker decided to change the formate from slopestyle to rail jam. Almost 80 competitors and teams of all nations were battling it out in the finals, showing off with their best tricks on the jib line. At the end of the day, a lot of smiling faces were sharing podiums. The recap video covers all the action: https://vimeo.com/161467190

On April 2nd, 2016, the Betterpark Hintertux just opened the doors for the spring season with the Zillertal Välley Rälley hosted by Ride coaching and training day. While the Ästhetiker coaches Steve Gruber, Friedl Kolar and Klaus Hofmeister were shredding around the easy, medium and jib lines all day long with up-and-coming talents, men were already warming up for the final contest on the pro line. For the perfect end of the day, the tourism association Tux Finkenberg sponsored free goulash soup and drinks for everyone.

Around 80 riders were gathering in Hintertux for the final competition on Sunday. Because of wind and flat lights, the Ästhetiker replaced the slopestyle by a rail jam formate. Riders of all categories moved on to the jib lines to show off with their best tricks one more time and collect points in the World Snowboard Tour ranking.

Heli Bockhorni (GER) and Niklas Huber (GER) could handle the conditions best and both took victory in the super grom category, while Annika Morgan (GER) and Gabe Adams (GBR) made it to the top spot in the groms class. Gabe also hit the jackpot as the “most impressive grom of the day.” Tereza Sebkova (CZE) and Chandler Hunt (USA) were the winners of the rookie class and Tereza Cermakova (CZE) won the gold medal in the women´s category. Austrian coach and jib master Felix Widnig could not be beaten on the rails and got first in the men´s contest. Ukrainian rail machine Kirill Milutyn won the Vans Best Trick Award with a stylish FS blunt sex change and took home a complete streetwear outfit voucher.

After the winners of the day, the overall tour winners and thus official Zillertal Välley Rälley royal family 2016, got crowned in Hintertux. Previous year´s Princess, Evy Poppe (BEL) managed to defend her title and become Princess of the Välley 2016 (super grom girls). Niklas Huber (GER) was on top of the super grom boys ranking and became Prince of the Välley. Marie Kreisingerova (CZE) and Niclas Bothe (GER) were crowned Dutchess and Duke of the Välley for their first places in the groms category. Adela Kreisingerova (CZE) and Jan Rovenksy (CZE) were the Baroness and Baron as leaders of the rookie class. Djoelie Ectors (BEL) is the name of the new Queen of the Välley (women). With Roli Tschoder (AUT) and Patrick Fankhauser (AUT) two friends are sharing the lead of the overall men´s ranking and consequently the throne and crown of the actual King of the Välley 2016.

Adela Kreisingerova (CZE) and Jan Rovensky (CZE) both further won a wildcard for the World Rookie Finals, that will be kicking off right after the Välley Rälley finals.

Sarah Moser, Marketing Manager of Hintertux Glacier: ”The finals of this year´s Zillertal Välley Rälley have been at the same time a first performance test for the new setup at Betterpark Hintertux, which started into the spring season that weekend. The great number of participants on the coaching and contest day were checking out the brand-new park setup and despite persisting south winds, everybody was content. Again, it has been a great weekend with a great bunch of young and motivated snowboarders and we are looking forward to the 4th Välley Rälley series in 2016/2017.”

From now on, the XXL setup of the Betterpark Hintertux will be open maintained on a daily basis. All info and updates are available at www.hintertuxergletscher.at and www.betterpark.at.

Zillertal VÄLLEY RÄLLEY hosted by Ride Snowboards 2015 / 2016

Vorjahressiegerin Evy Poppe (BEL) konnte ihren Titel als Princess of the Välley (Super Grom Girls) verteidigen. Niklas Huber (GER) wurde zum Prince of the Välley (Super Grom Boys) ernannt. Marie Kreisingerova (CZE) und Niclas Bothe (GER) erhielten als Overall Sieger der Groms Kategorie den Titel als Dutchess und Duke of the Välley. Adela Kreisingerova (CZE) und Jan Rovensky (CZE) wurden zur Baroness und zum Baron 2016 in der Rookie Klasse ernannt. Djoelie Ectors (BEL) heisst die neue Queen of the Välley (Women).
