SNOW - Confirmed team #2 The Djudes
The 2011 Wängl Tängl was the first year the The Djudes lined up at the event specifically as their own crew. The team, consisting of Chris ‘CK’ Kröll(C), Flo Heim and Mario Wanger were always going to be a dangerous combination with years riding experience in their home Vans Penken Park and considerable Wängl team riding time as members of other teams in the past. Their resulting second placing and automatic re-qualification for the Vans Wängl Tängl 2012 main event stands as a living testament to that…
Mayrhofen local and The Djudes team Captain, Chris ‘CK’ Kröll, had to reshuffle the staring line up shortly before last year’s Wängl as young power striker, Werni Stock, got a late call up to the European X-Games, before a crushing ACL knee injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Fortunately for CK, The Djudes reserve bench is long and deep, other crew members include Benny Wetscher, Tom Wagner, Andi Pfister, Peter König and Tom Klocker who were all at the ready. This was fortunate, as a further injury set back struck only days before kick off when Peter König blew a shoulder, seeing Flo Heim step up into the team and go on to kill it coming off the bench.
We spoke to CK and discussed the tough Captains choices he faced last year. ”We went in pretty relaxed going into the competition last year, despite the injuries. The team really gelled, and we were pretty stoked firstly on second place and then of course making the direct re-qualification for this year’s event.” he said. When asked about the team format, he said, ”I think it’s one of the best competitions to show what you got as a Team. This year’s 10th Anniversary of the Wängl is going to be even better with stiffer competition, more polished teams and a Quail crew to contend with.” he concluded.
In announcing the The Djudes starting line up for 2012, again CK was faced with some hard choices due to the talent pool at his fingertips on his team roster. Bringing playmaker, Mario Wanger, back into the starting line up and including the marauding, always dangerous, Tom Klocker, off the bench, he explained the team selection, “Werni and Peter have got heavy seasons ahead of them, both filming and contest wise.” he said, “Mario, Tom and I will be riding a lot together this season, giving us the best pre-event fitness training going into the Wängl 2012.” Taking the Tängl Title has been an ellusive but high priority goal for CK, when asked what he thought The Djudes chances were for this year, typically, he modestly summarized it by saying, “I’m looking forward to it, the team is more than solid and I hoping we will kill it again.”
One thing is for sure; The Djudes mean business and have proven hard to beat with home ground advantage. Coming into the event with a fully fit, firing, in form squad and a reserve bench brimming with talent – will this be the year The Djudes take home the bacon? We are looking forward to finding out…
