Ästhetiker Winter MÄSH presented by G-Shock – ONLINE NOW!

Saalbach Hinterglemm, SalzburgerLand, Austria, 13th – 15th February 2013

Saalbach Hinterglemm, 20th December 2012: From the 13th to 15thof February 2013 the Ästhetiker Winter MÄSH 2013 presented by G-Shock will celebrate its world premiere in Saalbach Hinterglemm. Three days of intense boardsport culture and action will stoke out snowboard fans and guests as the International Team Snowboard Event supported by GShock, Vans, Red Bull and Fiat, hits the town in the heart of SalzburgerLand in Austria. A packed program for all days and nights featuring Music, Art and Snowboard Happenings is set to make for good times. No one less than the Austrian Hip Hop Crew Texta backed by The S.K. Ambassadors will be playing on the Main Stage for Friday´s Final Night Concert in complement to both their own and the Ästhetiker´s 20th Crew Anniversary.

The Ästhetiker Winter MÄSH 2013 presented by G-shock, defined by an acronym from its elements of Music, Art and Snowboard Happening, will stir up Saalbach Hinterglemm from February 13th to 15th 2013. As every Ästhetiker Jam it will be focusing on the fundamental, core ethos of board sports culture - the crews – both on and off the mountain!

MUSIC – 20 year Texta Anniversary
The MÄSH stands for three nights full of music highlights mixed for all tastes. Beside the infamous Red Bull Brandwagen Street Party, several night parties and Ä-lternative Club Nights feature some of the best national DJ´s. For a good reason, no one less than the Austrian Hip Hop Crew Texta will be taking over the Open Air Stage for Friday´s Final Night Concert. Texta and the Ästhetiker have a lot in common: they both officially formed a posse in 1993 and since have been respected underground players in their scenes. What better chance than the MÄSH to celebrate both anniversaries.

ART – Streetart and Graffiti
Modern Art has always been an important element of the Ästhetiker events, creating a natural linkage from the sporting to the music, featuring the works of active professional snowboarders and musicians or friends of the Ästhetiker family. Street Art has been an important part of the board culture since its existence, while Graffiti is a central element of the Hip Hop movement. Yet again, the philosophy leans towards live, interactive pieces creating the chance for artist and spectators to meet and greet.

SNOWBOARD – Ästhetiker Crew Battle goes Nightpark Hinterglemm
Together with the local shape team, Ästhetiker contest park designer Steve Gruber has worked out a tech rail orientated setup plan, featuring a four-hit line ending in the renown Red Bull End Section. The inaugural Winter MÄSH Snowboard Qualifications is open to any and all 2-man crews who think they have what it takes to take on the best. The best four Qualification teams will join the 12 invited crews for the 16-Team Head-to-Head main event, culminating in the Friday night Finals.

All updates on the music lineup, new artists and snowboard crew battle can be found on the brand-new website www.wintermash.com or on www.aesthetiker.com and on Facebook

Ästhetiker Winter MÄSH presented by G-Shock

Announcing the Ästhetiker Winter MÄSH presented by G-Shock
Saalbach Hinterglemm, SalzburgerLand, Austria, 13th – 15th February 2013

The Ästhetiker, in conjunction with the Saalbach Hinterglemm Lift Company and Tourism Board, announce the signing of a partnership to realize a new winter season event for 2013. Presented by G-Shock, the Winter MÄSH is the latest creation by the Ästhetiker crew, renown for producing team based snowboarding contests fused with live music, interactive art elements combined to showcase the best in boardsports culture. With support from partners Vans, Red Bull and Fiat, the inaugural Winter MÄSH presented by G-Shock promises to be a highlight on this season’s winter calendar kicking off over the 13th – 15th of February 2013 in Saalbach Hinterglemm, SalzburgerLand, Austria.

The launch of the Winter MÄSH is a culmination of months of work, site checks and brainstorming over the summer. A long held Ästhetiker ambition has been to deliver their unique take on board sports happenings in an accessible, centralized, valley based venue.

The Winter MÄSH concept, defined by an acronym from it’s elements of Music, Art and Snowboard Happening, unearthed the perfect event site and partner in Saalbach Hinterglemm.

Plans for a new contest line in the existing, season long Nightpark at the base of the Unterschwarzach Bahn in Hinterglemm have already been drawn up. Two man teams will battle it out on a creative kicker and rail line ending in the Red Bull End Section at a head-to-head final in front of the main music stage.

Supported by daily sets from world class DJ’s, the snowboard finals will be followed by Live International headlining acts creating a climax to the three day ‘Contesti-val’ style celebration to this board culture jamboree. True to it’s name, the Winter MÄSH will rock Saalbach Hinterglemm from start to finish with daily (and nightly) highlights including the infamous Red Bull Brandwagen Street Party, live music acts, event village, ‘Ä-lternative’ Clubbing nights and an interactive Art Exhibition inspired by local talent and 20-years of Ästhetiker crew happenings.

The decision to launch a new event was broken down by Steve Gruber, President of the Ästhetiker, who stated, “We were blown away by the potential of bringing all event elements together in one centralized, town based arena.” Going on to conclude, “The location alone was not the only factor taken into account. The motivation and vision from the Tourist Office, Lift Company and the Nightpark shaping crew in Saalbach Hinterglemm left us in no doubt that this place is going to rock!”

Kathrin Mitterer from the Bergbahnen Saalbach Hinterglemm summed up local anticipation, "We are delighted to announce the arrival of a world class snowboard event right here in Saalbach Hinterglemm, fixing another red-letter day on our event calendar.” She said, concluding “The Nightpark is the perfect venue for staging major events only minutes walking distance from the town centre. We are confident with the years of experience, between both the Ästhetiker and our team, this partnership will result in a highly successful joint venture.”

The Winter MÄSH crew look forward to welcoming everyone to this next adventure and invites the whole boardsports family to come celebrate this veritable ‘mash up’ of all the best in Music, Art and Snowboarding at a once a year Happening in Saalbach Hinterglemm over the 13th – 15th of February 2013.

8th November, Mayrhofen, Austria

The Ästhetikers announce a Break from the Wängl Tängl in 2013.

Following the highly successful 10th edition of the Vans Wängl Tängl presented by G-Shock in Mayrhofen, Austria, the Ästhetiker announce today that they are taking a break from producing the renown team based event. After restructuring as a Club over the summer, the Ästhetikers prepare to celebrate their 20th Anniversary as a highly visible crew on the European board sports landscape. The decision to take a break from the Wängl Tängl and the production of soft goods and snowboard line reflects a refocusing of their energy, opening the door to investigating new opportunities in 2013.

Over the past 20-years of agitation, the Ästhetiker crew have become infamous as board sports advocates throughout the Zillertal, Austria, Europe and half way across the globe. Formed in 1993 as a loosely affiliated, eclectic crew of snow, skate and surf protagonists, they formalized this movement as a company in 2000, going on to launch an Austrian event tour, Ästhetiker branded soft goods and a snowboard line. In 2002 they launched their flagship event, the Wängl Tängl in their home base of Mayrhofen, Austria. Fondly described as a ‘Contest-ival’, 2012 culminated in the event’s critically acclaimed 10th Anniversary, melding a unique combination of team snow, team skate, music and art elements into a week long, board culture jamboree.

Renown for producing progressive parks and creative events, the question of ‘where to from here’ was approached following the success of 2012. After resulting in the decision to take a break from the Wängl Tängl in 2013. “Obviously, nothing is ever perfect, but last season’s Wängl Tängl was about as close as you could hope to get.” said Steve Gruber, President of the Ästhetiker Club. “After 10-years of amazing co-operation with the Mayrhofner Bergbahnen and Tourismusverband Mayrhofen and our long term event partners, we felt we needed time to look at how we could step it up again to guarantee the next edition of the Wängl is kick arse, not an anti-climax. That’s not how we roll…” he concluded.

With the Ästhetiker Club based in Mayrhofen, the ongoing relationship with the area remains strong moving forward. “Following the 10-year co-operation on producing the Vans Wängl Tängl, we agreed on the concept of taking a creative break.” said Sarah Huber, Marketing Manager for the Mayrhofen Bergbahnen, “We are looking forward to a strong partnership and working with the Ästhetiker on developing progressive concepts and the next ‘big thing’ here in Mayrhofen. Until then, stay tuned.”

The Ästhetiker would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our long term partners, friends and supporters from Mayrhofen who have provided invaluable support in building the Wängl Tängl from it’s humble inception to one of the worlds premium team based events. We would also like to extend our gratitude to our long-term partners of Vans, Red Bull and ongoing partners G-Shock and Fiat for their continued support.

The Ästhetikers will shortly announce their plans for their 20th Anniversary in 2013 that will be focused on creating core credible, team-orientated event formats while investigating the development of platforms for youth development.

History of the Ästhetiker

Established in 1993, the Ästhetikers formed originally from a crew of friends who shared the lifestyle and common passion of board sports. In 2000, the Ästhetiker moved from a pure crew, forming a legal entity allowing it to develop event properties, launching its first Ästhetiker Tour across Austria the same year. Included in that Tour was the ‘Penken Trophy’ that grew into the world-renowned team event, the Wängl Tängl firmly establishing the Ästhetikers in their home base of Mayrhofen, Austria. The company went on to create widely distributed Ästhetiker soft goods and a quality snowboard line. In 2012, the company formation changed to a Club, discontinuing products while allowing the organization return to its main focus – creating core credible, board friendly events and happenings.  The company is registered to Ästhetiker, Laubichl 124, Mayrhofen  6290, Austria, under the jurisdiction of  Schwaz, Tirol.

Event Report - Rock&Roll the Mtown Bowl presented by G-Shock

"Photo Gallery by Rudi Kröll"

"Photo Gallery by Beckna"

"Event Movie by Andreas "Mone" Monsberger"

Following weeks of hot, bluebird conditions, the weather forecast leading up to the first edition of the Rock&Roll the M-Town bowl look bleak to say the least. Organizers were constantly on every weather site they knew of looking for the slightest encouragement with little on offer as the Friday arrival day saw a meter snow dump and rain heavy enough to cause a small mud slide closing the road to the Hintertux glacier. Weather for Saturday's contest day was looking slightly better, no sun forecast but the outside possibility that it would not be raining as hard for periods of the day. Plan B's and Plan C's were already being put in place as the now infamous Team Jäger (Oli Gordon and Michi Nadler), the Kufstein, Brixlegg and Carinthia crews started to arrive in the early evening. In the course of a couple of hours a make shift skate park was set up in the event home base, the Gasthof Zillertal, as a fall back position if Saturday's weather remained nasty, only for it to see the planned Official Unofficial Warm Up party at the location turn out to be a hot an heavy skate session to kick off the weekend.

Saturday morning brought little to encourage to organizers, with heavy rain continuing in still conditions that almost guaranteed the heavy clouds hanging ominously low in the valley were going no-where. Despite this, the Ästhetiker crew started set up on the outside chance conditions improved. Armed with squeegees, brooms and a couple of gas flame blowers, and optimism, the gods of the valley smiled on the event with rain drying up, and sun all but poking through - leaving the M-Town Bowl ready to Rock&Roll at precisely the advertised starting time of 13:00. The skate session started gradually with Ästhetiker President, Steve Gruber and Team Jäger's Oli Gordon set the early pace as skaters and spectators slowly arrived over the afternoon as it became clear the weather would hold and the session was on.

By mid-afternoon, the session had gained pace with a sizable crowd enjoying the skating, drinks and BBQ in cool but stable weather. The kids workshop turned into more of a give-away as products from the event partners including Vans, Arnette, Volcom, K2, Almost, Four Star and the Greenroom with event speaker, Markus Diensthuber created a mini(shredder) riot in the bottom of the bowl as kids clambered over each other in what must have seemed Christmas in September. Once the kids had cleared the bowl, the Old School session started with a Santa Cruz Longboard up for grabs that was pulled in by several flowing runs and a handstand by a pretty stoked local, Georg Huber.

The climax of the day was the CÄsh for your TÄsh session worth 500 Euro was Introduced by a Acro Show by Bene Dornauer and with Peter Sandner cranking up th Rock&Roll on the decks, opened the flood gates with all skaters left standing going for the cash. Powering all day, Oli Gordon and Steve Gruber were joined in the  CÄsh for your TÄsh session by Michi Nadler, Patrick Fankhauser, Alex Walch, Marcel & Alex Geisler and Fabio Rieser to name a few. With the cash running out and the session coming to an end by the stroke of 19:00, the first edition of the Rock&Roll the M-Town Bowl presented by G-Shock came to a close in perfect timing for all those who attended to get home, shower and get fired up for the AUFGEAZ! Afterparty at the Brückenstadl that saw over 800 fans turn up for a raging night with DJ FU, Funkanomics and headlined by the incredible Benji Boko!

Overall results from the first edition of the Rock&Roll the M-Town Bowl presented by G-Shock were:

Best Trick:                                 Matthias Trobos

Most Impressive Skater:              David Magreiter

Best Rookies:                             Fabian Kröll / Marcel Geisler

The Ästhetiker would like to thank all of our partners who supported the event including  Vans, G-Shock, Red Bull, Arnette, The Greenroom and the Gasthof Zillertal and all of our partners who supplied goodies including G-Shock watches, GoPro's, product from Vans, Arnette, Volcom, K2, Almost, Four Star, Santa Cruz decks, Jan Glas from the Gasthof Zillertal, all of our volunteers leading up to and for their support over the weekend, the AUFGEAZ! crew for a banging Afterparty and for all those who turned up over the weekend.

We hope to see you in Mtown again for Rock&Roll the M-Town Bowl 2013!
